Amish Friendship Bread

This should be my goal for the month post. Moving has really put a damper on cooking especially experimenting. So I am going to do two goals in September.

Last week I shared how to make Amish Friendship Bread starter. And since we are nearing the day to make bread if you made the starter last week, it's time for the recipe for the bread.

Amish Friendship Bread

1 cup of starter
1 cup oil
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 - 5.1oz box vanilla instant pudding (or 1/2 cup homemade vanilla instant pudding mix)

Preheat oven to 325. Grease and sugar two loaf pans. Set aside. Mix wet ingredients together. Mix dry ingredients together in a separate bowl. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together. Pour the batter evenly into the pans. Bake bread for 1 hour or until it is firm in the middle. Allow to cool and enjoy!

There are so many other options to make with the starter. The Friendship Bread Kitchen website has more than you could ever imagine.

  3. Enie, I shared about the starter in a previous post. http://coffeewithus3.blogspot.com/2013/08/amish-friendship-bread-starter.html It is similar to sour dough starter. You allow the yeast to work and do its thing for 10 days before using it to make your bread.

  4. Yum! When I was growing up my mom always had "herman" around for pancakes and coffee cakes. I never thought to make a bread with it. When it gets a bit cooler I think I will have to make some starter again to keep through the winter! Thanks for reminding me :-)
