Decorative Pin Cushion

Decorative Pin Cushion

While we were in Denver, we did a lot of shopping, cooking, game playing, and wedding prepping and tearing down. But we did have some down time.  So we worked on some crafts.  Now when I say we, I mean my mom and our friend, Marsha.  If you remember, I am not the crafty one of the 3 of us.  I am so thankful they shared their crafts with me for the blog.  With being gone, I wasn't totally prepared for this week.

My mom made pin cushions in teacups and decorative boxes as thank you gifts for the people who allowed us to stay in their home (we played a bit of musical beds).  I love these because they are a decorative spin on a plain ole pin cushion.

Things you will need:
Fabric
Decorative box or teacup
thread
needle
hot glue
stuffing or batting

Begin by cutting fabric in a circle.  The circle diameter should be twice that of the teacup or twice the length of one side of the box.
Fabric Circle

Hand sew the edge of the fabric with a basting stitch.

Basting Stitch

Once you have stitched around the entire circle.  Pull on the thread to gather the fabric together.  Leave enough space to fill the ball with stuffing or batting.

Pull thread

Stuff the ball until it's firm.  Pull the thread to close the the ball and tie.

Stuff ball

Place ball into cup or box to be sure that it isn't too big or too small.  Remove ball, place glue on the inside wall of the box or cup, and place the ball back in the cup or box.  Allow to dry.  (For this clear glass box, we put the hot glue on the bottom of the ball.) Place decorative pins in cushion.  And you are finished!
